Your invite to experience BRIGHT THIS AUTUMN

17 Apr 2019 10:40 AM - Discover the spectacular change of season in Bright this autumn

Bright is one of a few places in Australia where the change from summer to autumn is so sharp and spectacular.

A visit in late April and May allows you to savour vibrant reds, oranges and yellows as the leaves change on the town’s multitude of deciduous trees, many of which form a spectacular canopy above the town’s streets.

The visual splendour is complemented by crisp mornings and warm days, perfect for a wide range of activities including cycling and walking – or frolicking amongst the heavy blanket of fallen leaves that cover much of the town!

And while the nights edge towards the cooler side, they lend themselves to sitting by the fire with a glass of fine local wine.

Celebrating this change is the Bright Autumn Festival, which runs from April 26 to May 5 and features a wide variety of family-friendly activities.

Some of the key events include:

The Wandi Nut Festival – held on Saturday, April 27 in the quaint village of Wandiligong, just 5km from Bright, showcases a wide range of nuts and fresh produce from around the region. You’ll not only get to enjoy freshly harvested local chestnuts, hazelnuts and walnuts, you’ll also learn how to prepare and cook them.

This includes the opportunity to roast chestnuts over an open fire, and attend cooking demonstrations by local chefs including Patricia Simone.

There’s a wide variety of other local produce on offer as well, including local wines, craft beer, olive oil and apples, and children are looked after as well with arrange of fun activities. Live music is also featured.

Open Gardens Bright – Immerse yourself in 14 local gardens, each of which delivers a unique perspective on the spectacular Alpine Autumn. The gardens vary from formal styles through to informal layouts, and you’ll get the chance to meet the gardeners.

An Evening with Jane Edmanson – Join the Bright Gardening Club at this talk by the ABC TV Gardening Australia presenter. Held on Tuesday, April 30 at 7.30pm at Bright Senior Citizens Hall. The cost is $10, which includes supper and a plant list. No bookings necessary.

Bright Rotary Gala Day – Held on Saturday, May 4, this day-long festival includes a market and street entertainment in central Bright. There’s market stalls, live music, a grand parade, and ‘Bright’s Got Talent’. There’s also a bon fire at Bright Brewery.
