Family snow holiday Mt Feathertop Mt Hotham Accommodation with open fire

Harrietville offers the closest off mountain accommodation to Mount Hotham!
It can be a challenge to find cheap snow accommodation or budget ski holiday deals so staying 'off mountain' can be a great way to experience an affordable snow holiday.

With the Snowball Express Bus Service operating daily from Harrietville to Mt Hotham, you can leave the car behind.  You also get to experience some of the most spectacular views as you wind through the Alpine National Park to reach the top of Mount Hotham - the views to Mt Feathertop on a crisp morning are breathtaking!

Harrietville offers several accommodation options to suit any kind of group looking for a snow getaway or you could reside in Bright and alternate between Mt Hotham, Falls Creek & Mt Buffalo (great tobogganing for the kids).
Remember your pass from Hotham is also valid at Falls Creek so you can mix it up for even better value and experience the best of the Victorian Ski Fields!

Another added bonus of having an off mountain family ski holiday is that if the kids (or especially the grown-ups!) need a rest day or the weather is not so nice on the mountain you have the entire Alpine Valley at your doorstep!
Take a drive to Milawa or Beechworth for a gourmet treat, take an Alpine Valleys winery or brewery tour - take the kids to the Wandiligong Hedge Maze or catch fresh trout at the Mountain Fresh Trout Farm.... you get the idea!

Alpine Valley Getaways also offers all guests who book their snow season accommodation with us a discount on Transport, Chain hire, Ski & Snowboard hire packages from Hoy's Skis in Harrietville, Hotham & Dinner Plain.

Mountain View Hotel, Wandiligong  Wandi Pub, Victoria  Wandi Pub, Wandiligong Victoria

No trip to the Great Alpine Valleys is complete without taking a drive to the beautiful Hamlet of Wandiligong.

The peaceful little town full of historical landmarks has been sympathetically developed to maintain it's
charm, history & character and is a must see.
A Wandi landmark (particularly for dirt bikers who take the many trails leading there) is the Mountain View Hotel or the 'Wandi Pub'.

The hotel came under new ownership only 5 weeks ago and the staff were warm & friendly. The building itself could use some TLC &style updating but it still has character.  The front bar walls are lined with historical photos & memorabilia and the Christmas spirit was in the air!

The highlight is the huge grassed beer garden out the back with heaps of room to let the kids burn some energy and a brilliant outdoor stage which hosts the pubs many jam nights & live gigs, which I hear are a hoot and occur regularly!

In terms of food & wine, this is no gastropub.  The food is standard cheap & cheerful pub grub but it too could use a little style updating, (orange slices on the salad & buttered bread triangles) it was like I said though cheap & cheerful.

Don't head out for a gourmet experience but definitely enjoy the ambience and mountain views with a cold beer and maybe some funky tunes out the back, and the chance to explore a beautiful town!
Check it out and hopefully the new owners will give the place the injection of love it so well deserves!
